The Use of Herbal Medicines for Treatment of Androgenic Alopecia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

    TLDR Herbal treatments are safe and effective for androgenic alopecia when used with other therapies.
    This study investigated the use of herbal medicines for treating androgenic alopecia among 384 patients attending dermatology outpatient clinics in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The participants were knowledgeable about herbal products, with social media and family/friends being the primary information sources. Henna (61.2%) and aloe (56.3%) were the most commonly used herbs, while yogurt (54.4%) and eggs (49.5%) were popular home remedies. Female participants reported more frequent use of these treatments than males. About 61.7% of participants found herbal remedies beneficial, while 15.4% did not. Overall, herbal treatments were considered safe and effective when used alongside other therapies for androgenic alopecia.
