TLDR Certain herbal extracts mixed with coconut oil can effectively promote hair growth.
This literature review investigates herbal plants that can be combined with coconut oil to create hair tonics that promote hair growth. The study reviewed international and national journals and found that a combination of extracts from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Cuscuta reflexa, Citrullus colocynthis, Nardostachys jatamansi, and Ocimum gratissimum with coconut oil resulted in 9.00 ± 0.36 mm of hair growth over 30 days in rats. Additionally, Centella asiatica combined with coconut oil yielded a hair growth of 3.88 ± 0.16 mm in 30 days in rats. A microemulsion of coconut oil and rice bran oil produced a hair length of 12.6 mm in 18 days in rabbits. Lastly, Ziziphus jujuba combined with coconut oil led to hair growth of 1.82 ± 0.03 mm within 30 days in rats. These findings suggest that certain herbal extracts combined with coconut oil may be effective in promoting hair growth.
