TLDR Herbal extracts mixed with coconut oil can effectively promote hair growth.
This literature review investigates the efficacy of various herbal plant extracts combined with coconut oil as a hair tonic for promoting hair growth. The study reviewed international and national journals and found that a combination of extracts from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Cuscuta reflexa, Citrullus colocynthis, Nardostachys jatamansi, and Ocimum gratissimum with coconut oil resulted in hair growth of 9.00 ± 0.36 mm over 30 days in rats. Additionally, Centella asiatica combined with coconut oil led to hair growth of 3.88 ± 0.16 mm in 30 days in rats. A microemulsion of coconut oil and rice bran oil produced a hair length of 12.6 mm in 18 days in rabbits. Lastly, Ziziphus jujuba combined with coconut oil achieved hair growth of 1.82 ± 0.03 mm within 30 days in rats. These findings suggest that these herbal and oil combinations can be effective in promoting hair growth.
