TLDR There may be a link between Helicobacter pylori infection and the skin condition pityriasis versicolor.
In a prospective study with 57 participants, researchers found a significant relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and pityriasis versicolor (PV). The study included 27 patients with PV and 30 with telogen effluvium (TE) as a control group. The PV group showed higher rates of H. pylori positivity and serum H. pylori IgG levels compared to the TE group, with P-values less than 0.05. The study suggested that H. pylori eradication might be beneficial for patients with recurrent PV and dyspepsia, although further research with larger sample sizes is needed to confirm these findings and assess the impact of eradication treatment on PV. The study was conducted without financial support and with no declared conflicts of interest.
