TLDR Health Education England is moving forward with phase two of their cosmetic intervention project after a successful summit and plans for future training standards.
On May 1, 2014, Health Education England (HEE) concluded phase one of the non-surgical cosmetic interventions project with a stakeholder summit. The event was successful, with presentations from the HEE expert reference group on the development of content and outcomes for five treatment modalities in the draft qualifications framework: botulinum toxins, dermal fillers, chemical peels and skin rejuvenation, laser/IPL/LED treatments, and hair restoration surgery. The summit also discussed the Keogh review implementation, proposed legislation for dermal fillers, and challenges for phase two. Training requirements will be applicable to all practitioners, with various entry points and recognition of prior experience. Training will be competence-based, including theory, supervised practice, and assessment, with regular updates required. The framework will consider EU qualification equivalence and existing standards. HEE's mandate for 2014/2015 confirms the continuation of this work, with plans for phase two underway, including another stakeholder event in November 2014.
