TLDR The hair tonic made from oil palm leaf extract is very effective in preventing hair damage from the sun.
The study aimed to create a hair tonic from oil palm leaf extract and assess its effectiveness in preventing hair damage. The tonic was formulated with 96% ethanol, menthol, propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, and aquades, and underwent tests for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, antioxidant activity, and effectiveness. The antioxidant tests revealed very strong activity with IC50 values ranging from 36.8257±6.928 ppm at 4°C to 40.5459±9.086 ppm at 50°C. The tonic was greenish, had a menthol scent, and met the pH (3-7) and viscosity (<5 cPs) standards for hair tonics. It was effective in preventing hair decolorization from sun exposure at concentrations between 25 ppm and 200 ppm.
