TLDR Hematin in shampoo helps repair and straighten damaged hair.
The study investigated the use of a shampoo and conductive treatment agent containing hematin to repair hair damaged by washing, drying, brushing, coloring, or perming. Using transmission electron microscopy and electrical conductivity, the researchers found that these agents helped deposit a scale-forming material similar to a cuticle in the keratinization region, resulting in frizzled hair becoming straight. The components of the shampoo and treatment were preferentially adsorbed to damaged areas, promoting the formation of a cuticle-like material through epitaxial growth.
