TLDR Minoxidil-dutasteride tattooing can potentially help regrow hair, especially in men who already have some thin hair.
The study "Evaluation of Hair Regrowth after Minoxidil and Dutasteride Tattooing in Men with Androgenetic Alopecia" conducted a retrospective analysis of 15 male patients who underwent three monthly sessions of minoxidil-dutasteride tattooing (MDT) from 2016 to 2020 due to a lack of response to topical minoxidil and oral 5-α-reductase inhibitors. The primary outcome was defined as achieving >10% top scalp area regrowth (TSAR), calculated based on the difference in the top-quadrant Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) scores. The results showed that 53% of the patients achieved a mean TSAR of >10%, and 27% achieved a mean TSAR of >20%. Patients with vellus hair at the baseline had a 63% success rate compared to 22% in those with no vellus hair. The study concluded that MDT could be a potential treatment for male AGA, especially for those with vellus hair at the baseline.
