TLDR Hair products don't affect lupus development or severity.
The study aimed to investigate whether the use of hair products is linked to the development or severity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It involved 218 members of the Hopkins Lupus Cohort, 178 relatives, and 186 friends of the patients. The results showed no significant difference in the use of hair dye or hair permanents between SLE patients and controls before diagnosis. Additionally, there were no significant differences in SLE disease activity between patients who used hair products after diagnosis and those who did not. The study concluded that hair product use is not associated with the development or severity of SLE.
