TLDR Scalp cooling can effectively prevent hair loss during chemotherapy in pregnancy.
This case report describes a 38-year-old pregnant woman with breast cancer who successfully preserved nearly 100% of her hair using scalp cooling during chemotherapy with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide (AC). Despite the common occurrence of hair loss with AC, the patient experienced minimal hair loss, which may be attributed to pregnancy-related hair changes that slow hair follicle cycling. The patient delivered a healthy baby and continued treatment postpartum with minimal hair loss. This case suggests that scalp cooling can be a safe and effective method for hair preservation during pregnancy, offering a potential strategy to mitigate the psychological distress associated with chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
