TLDR Complete adrenal removal causes more hair loss in rats than partial removal.
The study investigated the effects of adrenalectomy on hair loss in rats over a 2-year period. Adult white and black rats, each weighing approximately 200 g, were used. Complete adrenalectomy led to more significant hair loss compared to sham-adrenalectomy, where only one adrenal gland was removed. The wounds from sham-adrenalectomy healed faster than those from complete adrenalectomy. The rats were treated with a petroleum and linseed oil mixture and kept in disinfected cages to monitor hair loss, which was collected using a fine wire mesh.
