TLDR Methylphenidate can cause hair loss, which stops when the drug is discontinued.
A 12-year-old boy diagnosed with ADHD experienced diffuse hair loss after starting methylphenidate treatment, which resolved upon discontinuation of the drug. His ADHD symptoms improved with atomoxetine without recurrence of hair loss. This case highlighted that methylphenidate can cause hair loss, an uncommon side effect, and emphasized the importance of considering drug-induced alopecia in clinical practice.
