TLDR Psychological stress and personal history are significant factors in hair loss.
The 2017 study "Three cases of hair loss analyzed by the point of view of the analytical psychology" investigated the role of psychological factors in hair loss through three individual cases. The subjects included an 8-year-old girl with total alopecia following exposure to domestic violence, a 43-year-old woman with self-inflicted scalp dermatitis due to severe anxiety, and a 23-year-old woman who developed telogen effluvium and hyperprolactinemia after her mother's death. The study concluded that psychological stressors and the patients' life histories significantly contributed to their hair loss. It highlighted the importance of considering psychosomatic factors in hair loss treatment and suggested that serum levels of prolactin and androgens could be influenced by the patient's psychosomatic state. However, the study did not provide specific data or the number of people studied.
