TLDR Mineral-rich spring water may promote hair growth better than Minoxidil in mice.
The study conducted 6 years ago investigated the hair growth promoting effects of mineral-rich spring water in SKH-1 hairless mice. The mice were divided into a normal control group, a positive control group treated with 3% Minoxidil, and groups treated with different concentrations of mineral water (2.5%, 5%, and 10%). After 21 days, mice treated with 2.5% mineral water showed preferable effects on the number of hair, length, and thickness compared to the other groups. Interestingly, Minoxidil, which does not contain minerals, showed less activity in promoting hair growth. The results suggested that the optimal concentration of mineral-rich spring water might have a significant hair growth promoting effect, indicating a potential novel strategy for managing hair loss. However, further studies were recommended to confirm these effects.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
