TLDR Despite adverse effects, people continue using hair dyes for aesthetic reasons, highlighting the need for safer options.
The study assessed the knowledge and practices of hair dye users, focusing on the purpose, frequency, and adverse reactions associated with hair dye use. Conducted on 98 participants from the PCMC region, the study found that most began dyeing their hair at around 25 years old, with 63.27% using synthetic dyes and 36.74% using herbal dyes. Despite perceiving herbal dyes as safer, users predominantly chose chemical dyes. The frequency of dye use was 4-5 times per year for 58.16% of participants. Adverse reactions included hair dryness (46.94%), hair loss (30.62%), and changes in texture and thinning. Notably, 29.59% experienced ill effects during dyeing, while 68.36% reported issues after the process. The study concluded that despite adverse effects, the aesthetic importance of hair color led to continued use, highlighting the need for research into safe, natural hair dyes.
