TLDR Hair cortisol measurement can help diagnose and monitor Cushing’s disease.
The study evaluated hair cortisol measurement (HCM) as a diagnostic tool for Cushing’s disease (CD), involving 23 CD patients and 50 controls. HCM was proposed as an additional test for hypercortisolism, showing acceptable concordance with urinary free cortisol (UFC) despite different evaluation periods. Results indicated significant differences in HCM values between controlled or active CD patients and controls, suggesting HCM as a viable alternative for diagnosing and monitoring CD. The study highlighted the potential of HCM to reflect cortisol exposure over three months, offering a non-invasive method for assessing CD status.
