TLDR A boy's scalp rash and baldness were cured using oral medication and medicated shampoo.
In a case study from 2020, a 3-year-old boy presented with a three-week history of a whitish rash and baldness on his scalp. Physical examination revealed whitish patches and plaques with scaling and hyperkeratosis, and alopecia in the vertex region. Woods light examination showed green fluorescence, and KOH preparation confirmed an ectothrix pattern of fungal invasion. The fungus Microsporum canis was cultured from the scalp. The boy was successfully treated with oral griseofulvin (375 mg once daily) and ketoconazole 2% shampoo twice weekly, resulting in complete clinical clearance after 8 weeks of treatment.
