TLDR Using gratitude journals can improve perceived hair loss and quality of life in women.
This study investigates the impact of gratitude journals as an adjunct intervention for female pattern hair loss (FPHL). Stress is known to negatively affect hair growth, and FPHL patients often experience lower quality of life. The study involved randomizing FPHL patients into an intervention group, which used gratitude journals, and a control group. After 1 month, 83% of the gratitude journal group reported improvement in hair loss, compared to 33% in the control group. Additionally, the gratitude journal group showed a 2.3-point improvement in quality of life, versus a 0.3-point improvement in the control group. Participants used the journals an average of 2.9 days per week and were likely to recommend them to others, suggesting that gratitude journals may be a beneficial, low-effort intervention for improving both hair loss perception and quality of life in FPHL patients.
