TLDR Lupus erythematosus panniculitis on the scalp can cause unique geometric hair loss patterns.
The study reviewed nine Korean patients with lupus erythematosus panniculitis (LEP) of the scalp, presenting with unique geometric patterns of non-scarring alopecia, over a period from 2006 to 2016. LEP typically manifests as round subcutaneous nodules or indurated plaques, but cases involving the scalp with linear or annular configurations are rare. This case series highlighted the distinct geometric alopecia associated with LEP in these patients.

Suggestions include improving scalp absorption with sea salt and trying a lipid-based solution, microneedling, and possibly switching to dutasteride if no improvement after 1-2 years.
