TLDR Certain genes help dermal papillae cells in hair follicles grow and group together.
The study aimed to clone and analyze genes differentially expressed in dermal papillae cells (DPC) with aggregative behavior using suppression subtractive hybridization. The results indicated that DPC with aggregative behavior expressed genes related to homologous aggregation, proliferation, and cycle control, including known genes such as capping protein, palladin, and VEGF, as well as hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPC) related clones (HSPC011 and HSPC016) and a new gene. These genes were primarily expressed in hair follicles. The study concluded that several genes might cooperatively influence the homologous aggregation, proliferation, and cycle control of DPC, with capping protein and palladin being closely related to the aggregative behavior, and VEGF and HSPC-related clones contributing to the higher proliferation status of DPC.
