TLDR The method accurately measures certain steroids in human hair, showing different levels in males and females.
The study described an efficient method for determining eight steroids related to androgen biosynthesis in human hair using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The method involved alkaline digestion, liquid–liquid extraction, and conversion to mixed pentafluorophenyldimethylsilyl–trimethylsilyl derivatives for analysis. It successfully quantified dihydrotestosterone (DHT), dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), pregnenolone, and testosterone in hair samples, with detection limits ranging from 0.02 to 0.5 ng g–1. The study found differences in steroid concentrations between male and female hair samples, although androstenedione, androsterone, etiocholanolone, and progesterone were not detected. The method demonstrated good repeatability and reproducibility, with linear SIM responses for most steroids.

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  1 upvotes 2 years ago
The user is considering resuming finasteride after a 6-month break and is debating the necessity of extensive blood work, including hormone and health markers, to establish a baseline. They are unsure if the tests are necessary since they experienced no side effects previously.

community Why use Finasteride instead of Dutasteride?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  39 upvotes 2 years ago
People are discussing why some choose finasteride over dutasteride for hair loss, noting that while dutasteride is more effective, it's also more expensive, less researched, and potentially has more side effects. Some users shared personal experiences with side effects from both drugs, and others mentioned that finasteride is FDA approved for hair loss, while dutasteride is not, except in Japan.
