TLDR Trapezoid donor strips give more hair follicles than elliptical ones in hair transplants.
The study "Comparative study of follicular unit yield in elliptical versus trapezoid donor strip in hair transplantation" involved 12 male patients with androgenetic alopecia. The researchers compared the yield of follicular units from elliptical and trapezoid donor strips during hair transplantation. The results showed that the trapezoid end of the strip yielded more follicular units in 83.3% of the cases. The study concluded that by using a trapezoid strip, the transection of follicular units in the ends of the donor strip can be reduced by 30-40%. Furthermore, the grafts harvested were 28.3% more in the trapezoid end of the strip than the elliptical end.
