TLDR Hair transplant is a safe and effective way to fix aesthetic issues after a facelift, with most patients happy with the results.
The study conducted at the Ivo Pitanguy Clinic from January 2001 to December 2004 included 33 female patients and evaluated the use of follicular unit transplantation (FUT) to correct aesthetic issues after rhytidoplasty, such as visible scars or displaced hairlines. The results indicated that 24 patients rated the outcome as excellent, 4 as satisfactory, and 3 as unsatisfactory, with only the unsatisfied patients requesting a second procedure. The mean number of grafts transplanted was 223 per side, with an estimated 90% survival rate of the follicles. Complications were minor and included scar widening at the donor site and temporary hair loss, with final results typically seen 1 year post-procedure. The study concluded that FUT is a simple, safe, and effective method for correcting post-rhytidoplasty stigmas, with high patient satisfaction and a low complication rate.
