TLDR Improved technique for facial surgery hides scars and maintains hairline.
The paper discusses a modified temporal incision technique for facial rhytidectomy, which has been used for 18 years. The technique involves placing the incision within the temporal hair in the vertical dimension and creating a beveled incision to allow hair growth through the area of the scar and beyond it, further camouflaging any scars. The modified technique has several advantages, including maintaining the hair tuft position with an anterior hairline incision, avoiding dog-ear formation, and improving the transmission of traction force. Scar visibility is a potential issue, but it likely depends on individual patient factors. The need for scar revisions in a smaller group of patients was the impetus for the modification.
