TLDR Pregnancy can trigger follicular mucinosis, which may resolve after delivery.
A 31-year-old pregnant Chinese woman developed asymptomatic, edematous plaques on her right cheek during her 24th week of gestation, diagnosed as primary follicular mucinosis (FM). Histopathological examination revealed reticular epithelial degeneration and infiltration of lymphocytes, histiocytes, and eosinophils around hair follicles and sebaceous glands. The condition resolved after delivery but recurred in a subsequent pregnancy, again resolving post-delivery. This case highlighted the potential for pregnancy to trigger FM and the importance of individualized treatment, with topical steroids proving effective in this instance.
