TLDR Two cows had a rare hair disorder causing hair loss but were otherwise healthy.
The document reported on follicular dysplasia with pigmentary changes in two adult cows, a black Brangus-cross and a black Angus, both exhibiting adult-onset diffuse alopecia. Skin biopsies showed follicular distortion, atrophy, and melanin clumping in various parts of the hair structure. Despite the alopecia, both cows were otherwise clinically normal. This study confirmed and expanded on the rarely reported syndrome of follicular dysplasia in cattle.
