TLDR Foams improve drug absorption and release in various medical applications.
The document reviewed the use of foam as a drug form, highlighting its advantages in drug delivery systems. Foams, being multiphase systems, were noted for their high surface area and low density, which enhanced drug absorption and solubility. Initially used for topical skin treatments, foams were well-received by patients and showed better absorption than ointments. The review discussed the potential of foams in oral medications, where they could increase drug solubility and modify release by holding drugs in their pores. Additionally, foams were used in parenteral applications, such as bone implants and antibiotic carriers, due to their ability to remain longer in the gastrointestinal tract and provide sustained drug release.
