TLDR Fluorescent light energy may help treat skin infections in dogs with calcinosis cutis.
The study explored the use of fluorescent light energy (FLE) as an adjunctive treatment for bacterial skin infections in a 15-year-old golden retriever with calcinosis cutis lesions. Traditional treatments were supplemented with FLE, leading to faster cytological improvement and hair regrowth in treated areas compared to controls. The Phovia system, which uses LED light and a photoconverter gel, was highlighted for its role in modulating inflammatory mediators and supporting tissue healing. The study concluded that FLE could be a beneficial adjunctive therapy to reduce systemic antibiotic use, with further research needed to optimize protocols, particularly for multidrug-resistant bacteria.
