TLDR Fish meal in Pakistan is often adulterated and needs better quality control for poultry use.
The study analyzed 184 samples of fish meal in Pakistan, categorizing them into four groups based on crude protein content, ranging from 40-60%. The majority of samples (46.20%) fell into group B (50-55% protein). An inverse relationship was found between crude protein and fat, ash, and pepsin digestibility. All samples were adulterated with higher levels of sand and salt than recommended. Chromium tests indicated contamination with leather meal in higher protein groups. The study highlighted the need for thorough screening to improve the quality of fish meal used in poultry rations.
