TLDR Baby born healthy despite mom taking finasteride, but more research needed.
The case report discusses a 39-year-old woman who became pregnant while taking finasteride, a drug used to treat alopecia and benign prostatic hypertrophy. The male infant was born healthy with no obvious dysmorphic features, but larger population-based studies are needed to establish the safety of finasteride use during pregnancy. Prior to initiating finasteride therapy, pregnancy should be ruled out and reliable contraception should be used in women with childbearing potential.
