TLDR Finasteride can cause enlarged breasts.
Finasteride is a drug used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is known to cause side effects such as loss of libido, loss of erection, and ejaculatory dysfunction. This case report describes a 67-year-old man who developed gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) after taking finasteride. The patient had a history of prostatitis and epididymitis, and was prescribed finasteride for persistent prostatic tenderness and nocturia. The gynecomastia was likely caused by an elevated serum estradiol level. This case highlights the need to consider this potential side effect when prescribing finasteride for BPH.
