TLDR Finasteride may help treat chronic CSC, improving vision.
A study from 12 years ago investigated the use of finasteride, a drug commonly used to treat male pattern baldness, in the treatment of chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), a condition that causes fluid buildup in the retina and can lead to vision loss. The study involved a small sample size of five male patients who were given finasteride daily for three months. The results showed that finasteride may represent a novel medical treatment for chronic CSC, as mean center-subfield macular thickness and subretinal fluid volume reached a nadir at 3 months and rose to levels that were below baseline by 6 months. Larger controlled clinical trials are needed to further assess the efficacy of finasteride for the treatment of CSC.
