The use of finasteride, a drug commonly used to treat male pattern alopecia and benign prostatic hyperplasia, may be associated with cataract formation and intraoperative floppy-iris syndrome (IFIS). Two cases of IFIS occurring in patients taking finasteride are reported in this paper, and the authors recommend that ophthalmologists be aware of this potential association and report any cases they encounter. Further studies are needed to confirm this association and determine the mechanism by which finasteride may cause IFIS.
