TLDR Early immunosuppressive therapy leads to favorable outcomes in Filipino lupus patients with myocarditis.
This study reviewed the medical records of 8 adult Filipino female patients with lupus myocarditis, revealing that myocarditis typically presented early in the course of lupus, with a mean lupus duration of 10 months. The patients exhibited high disease activity, with all showing hematologic activity and 75% having nephritis. Echocardiography indicated wall motion abnormalities in all patients, with a significant portion experiencing hypokinesia. Treatment primarily involved methylprednisolone pulse therapy and high-dose steroids. Despite one patient dying from cardiogenic and septic shock, 75% of the patients showed clinical improvement upon discharge, suggesting favorable outcomes with early immunosuppressive therapy.
