TLDR A child died from eating hair, causing severe stomach blockages and infection.
A rare case of a child under 10 years old with trichotillomania and trichophagia led to fatal complications from multiple gastrointestinal trichobezoars. Initially diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia and alopecia areata, the child experienced flu-like symptoms and abdominal pain before being found unresponsive. Postmortem examinations revealed trichobezoars in the stomach, jejunum, and ileum, causing small bowel obstructions and perforations, leading to peritonitis and death. This case highlights the use of postmortem imaging techniques to assess trichobezoars in Rapunzel syndrome.
