TLDR Removing part of the eyelid usually doesn't change the number of eyelashes.
The study reviewed 38 patients who underwent full-thickness eyelid resections to determine the impact on eyelash numbers. Results showed that in lower eyelids with more than 25% resection, there was an 11.6% decrease in lash count, which was statistically significant. However, in upper eyelids, lash numbers remained relatively unchanged regardless of the extent of resection. The findings suggested that despite a reduction in the total number of follicles, the proportion of lashes in the anagen (growth) phase increased postoperatively. This study added to the understanding of hair follicle cycle regulation, indicating that full-thickness eyelid excision does not typically affect the overall number of visible eyelashes.
