TLDR Pilomatrixomas likely originate from the hair matrix due to changes in hair keratin expression.
The study on pilomatrixomas, a type of follicular tumor, revealed that as these tumors mature into large areas of shadow cells, there was a gradual loss of differentiation-specific hair keratins. This change in hair keratin expression patterns supported the hypothesis that pilomatrixomas originated from the hair matrix, as evidenced by the complex hair keratin expression observed in these tumors.
