TLDR Women with and without hair loss have similar amounts of exogen hairs, so these hairs are not a key factor in hair loss conditions.
The study investigated the prevalence of exogen hairs in 25 women, divided into groups of 8 with no hair loss, 5 with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), 9 with telogen effluvium (TE), and 3 with both conditions. It found that exogen hairs made up 2.6% of total hairs in women without hair loss, 5.2% in those with AGA, 6.6% in those with TE, and 2.3% in those with both TE and AGA. The differences were not statistically significant, leading to the conclusion that exogen hairs do not play a significant role in the pathogenesis of AGA and TE.
