TLDR Dermoscopy is useful for diagnosing various skin conditions, and new patterns for diagnosis are emerging.
The review article "Evolving eponymous signs in diagnostic dermoscopy" discusses the use of dermoscopy, a technique initially developed for early diagnosis of skin melanoma, which has since been found beneficial for diagnosing other pigmented skin lesions like seborrheic keratosis, pigmented basal cell carcinoma, hemangioma, blue nevus, atypical nevus, and mole. The use of dermoscopy in general clinical dermatology is growing, with new and specific patterns being recognized in conditions such as hair disorders, inflammatory disorders, and infections/infestations. The article also highlights the use of eponyms in dermoscopy, trichoscopy, and onychoscopy, which are based on the imaginative capability of the authors and have been successful in describing various appearances for early diagnosis and management.
