TLDR Ethosomes are effective, safe carriers for delivering drugs through the skin.
Ethosomes were highlighted as a novel, non-invasive vesicular carrier for transdermal drug delivery, capable of transporting drugs into deep skin layers and systemic circulation. They were noted for their simplicity in preparation, efficacy, and safety, making them suitable for delivering highly lipophilic molecules and cationic drugs. A double-blind, two-armed randomized clinical study demonstrated that ethosomal acyclovir significantly improved evaluated parameters. The technology was also extended to introduce agents into cultured cells and microorganisms, suggesting broad potential for future therapeutic developments.
