TLDR Erythema nodosum linked to kerion can be treated effectively with antifungals and steroids to reduce scarring.
This document discusses the rare association between erythema nodosum (EN) and kerion, a form of inflammatory tinea capitis, primarily caused by the fungus *Trichophyton mentagrophytes*. It presents three cases successfully treated with itraconazole or griseofulvin plus prednisone. A review of 23 cases from the literature found that 78.25% involved *T. mentagrophytes*, with EN developing in 52.17% of cases after starting antifungal treatment, typically 11.58 days later. Griseofulvin is a key treatment, with EN resolving in an average of 8.31 days and kerion treatment lasting a median of 6 weeks. Scarring alopecia is a common outcome, and corticosteroids are recommended to reduce scarring risk.
