Eruptive Vellus Hair Cysts Treated With Lactic Acid: Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Image of study
TLDR Lactic acid cream can help improve skin bumps known as eruptive vellus hair cysts.
The document reports a case of a 41-year-old African American female with eruptive vellus hair cysts, a condition characterized by dome-shaped, hyperpigmented papules. The patient's condition did not improve with oral antihistamines and topical corticosteroids. However, a trial of topical 12% lactic acid resulted in modest improvement in the appearance of the lesions. The study suggests that topical lactic acid is an effective treatment option for eruptive vellus hair cysts, especially in richly pigmented patients, as it avoids the scarring and dyspigmentation that can result from surgical options.
