TLDR Eruptive vellus hair cysts are rare and often misdiagnosed, requiring biopsy for accurate diagnosis.
Eruptive vellus hair cyst (EVHC) was a rare follicular abnormality often misdiagnosed due to its resemblance to other conditions. An 18-year-old male with asymptomatic papules on his trunk and forearms was initially misdiagnosed with steatocystoma multiplex and chronic folliculitis. Histopathological examination confirmed EVHC, and the patient was treated with topical retinoic acid cream (0.05%) for 6 months. Accurate diagnosis and management of EVHC relied heavily on histopathology, highlighting its underreported and underdiagnosed nature.
