TLDR Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp may not be as rare as previously thought.
Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp (EPDS) was discussed as a rare condition primarily affecting the elderly, characterized by pustules, erosions, and crusts on the scalp leading to scarring alopecia. The study presented two patients with EPDS, both showing chronic, recurrent symptoms and nonspecific histological findings. Despite the rarity and frequent misdiagnosis of EPDS due to its nonspecific lab results, both patients responded well to potent topical steroids. The diagnosis criteria included atrophic or actinic damaged skin, clinical signs of erosions, pustules, scales, and crusts, absence of a specific histopathology or infectious agent, and a chronic course leading to scarring alopecia, often following a history of trauma.
