TLDR Erlotinib can cause acne-like skin issues, needing early treatment and possible dosage adjustments.
Erlotinib, an epidermal growth factor inhibitor used for non-small cell lung cancer, was reported to cause acneiform eruptions as a common skin-related side effect. This case report detailed a 67-year-old male who developed such eruptions on his face following erlotinib treatment. The condition was attributed to a disturbance in the balance between differentiation and maturation of skin cells. Treatments like topical metronidazole, clindamycin, salicylic acid, and tetracycline were suggested, and in severe cases, adjusting the erlotinib dosage or delaying treatment was recommended. Early diagnosis and management of these skin lesions were emphasized as crucial for maintaining patient compliance with erlotinib therapy.
