TLDR A mare had a functional ovary with a tumor containing cartilage and bone.
The study described an ovarian teratoma found in a mare's antral follicle, characterized by the presence of cartilage and bone. The ovary measured 8 cm in diameter, with a 4 cm antral follicle containing yellow fluid and material attached to skin, cartilage, and bone fragments. Histological analysis revealed normal ovarian tissue with active antral follicles, hemorrhagic follicles, and multiple tissue neoformations, including epidermis, dermis, and skin appendages. Despite the teratoma, the ovary appeared functional, as indicated by the presence of active follicles and evidence of recent ovulation.
