TLDR Skin diseases are changing, with more allergic and immune-related conditions, but infections remain a major concern.
The study "Epidemiological Profile of Skin Diseases in a Tertiary Hospital of Kathmandu: An Annual Census" analyzed outpatient department records from the Civil Service Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, for the year 2075 Bikram Sambat. The total number of cases was 9886, which accounted for 4.51% of total hospital attendance. Of these, 8097 were new cases, with 4218 (52.1%) males and 3879 (47.9%) females. The most common diagnosis was eczemas (18.47%), followed by dermatophytosis (15.29%). Eczemas, chronic urticaria, psoriasis, and lichen planus were more common in adults over 30 years old, while infections and acne were more common in young adults (15-30 years old) of both sexes. The study concluded that the pattern of skin diseases is changing over time, with diseases of possible allergic and immunologic etiology increasing, and diseases with infective etiology still posing a significant societal burden.
