TLDR Enteral nutrition's role in maintaining Crohn's disease remission is unclear and needs more research.
The review evaluated the efficacy and safety of enteral nutrition for maintaining remission in Crohn's disease (CD) through four randomized controlled trials involving 262 adult participants. The studies compared various diets, including elemental and polymeric diets, against other interventions like 6-mercaptopurine and mesalamine. The findings were inconclusive due to very low to low certainty evidence and high risk of bias in some studies. The results showed no clear advantage of enteral nutrition over other treatments in preventing relapse or adverse events. The authors concluded that more research is needed to establish the role of enteral nutrition in maintaining remission in CD, with ongoing studies expected to provide further insights.
