TLDR Canine leishmaniasis is present in Oklahoma, USA.
The document reported the discovery of an endemic focus of canine leishmaniasis in north central Oklahoma, specifically in a 7-year-old female American Foxhound with severe alopecia and other symptoms. The dog, part of a kennel of 17 Foxhounds, exhibited dermatitis, anemia, and abnormal blood parameters. Necropsy revealed extensive leishmania infection in various organs, including lymph nodes, lungs, spleen, liver, and skin, with numerous organisms found in macrophages. This case highlighted the presence of endemic canine leishmaniasis in the United States, previously reported only in dogs with travel history to Greece.
