TLDR Adding yeast extract or coconut water to ginseng root hair culture didn't raise ginsenoside levels but coconut water did increase the biomass.
The research aimed to study the effect of elicitors, specifically yeast extract and coconut water, on the growth and ginsenoside levels in Panax ginseng root hair culture. Ginsenosides are the main bioactive component in ginseng, a plant often used in traditional medicine. The study found that adding yeast extract at a concentration of 20 mg L−1 from the start did not increase ginsenoside levels in the hairy root culture of P. ginseng. Similarly, the addition of coconut water from the beginning at a volume of 10 mL increased the biomass but did not increase the ginsenoside levels in the hair culture of P. ginsenoside.
